Borgvattnet Vicarage, constructed in 1876, is renowned for its paranormal activity. Initially a tranquil residence for vicars and their families, the first recorded haunting occurred in 1927.
In 1907, Marta, the wife of Vicar Nils Hedlund, died during childbirth within the vicarage. Overcome with grief, Nils secretly buried her in the backyard. When villagers discovered this, they insisted Marta be reinterred in the cemetery. Nils eventually agreed, but the following day, the entire Hedlund family and Marta’s remains mysteriously vanished.
After his father’s death some years later, Nils Hedlund returned to the vicarage. He first reported seeing his laundry being inexplicably pulled from the drying rack in the garden, despite the absence of any wind strong enough to do this. Later, In 1930, Vicar Rudolf Tängdén witnessed a lady dressed in grey gliding through the vicarage’s hall. She disappeared into the Expedition Room, leaving Tängdén bewildered.
in 1936 Otto Lindgren and his wife moved into the vicarage. Although they never saw apparitions, they experienced numerous inexplicable occurrences. Footsteps echoed through the house, doors swung open and shut on their own, and unseen visitors seemed to roam the rooms. One day, Mrs. Lindgren, while home alone, heard haunting music emanating from the kitchen. When she opened the door, the music abruptly stopped. Otto later experienced the same phenomenon, leaving them both mystified and unable to find any rational explaination for the unusual phenomena.
In 1941, Inga Flodin, a diocese secretary, stayed overnight at Borgvattnet Vicarage during a business trip. At precisely 3 am, she awoke feeling an intense gaze upon her. To her astonishment, she saw three ethereal ladies sitting on the couch opposite her bed. They were transparent and serene, watching her with eyes filled with sorrow and longing.
Today, Borgvattnet Vicarage continues to draw paranormal enthusiasts, skeptics, and thrill-seekers. Its reputation as a hotbed of supernatural activity persists, with numerous reports of apparitions, phantom footsteps, and inexplicable sounds. Visitors flock to witness the Grey Lady, hear the phantom music, and perhaps catch a glimpse of Marta herself, forever bound to the vicarage where she met her tragic end.
Whether you believe in ghosts or dismiss them as folklore, Borgvattnet Vicarage remains an enigmatic location. Visitors can book a room or rent the entire house to experience its eerie atmosphere firsthand.
