Did Fox Sports capture a ghost running through spectators during a Copa Libertadores game? … well, no.
What seemed to be a paranormal apparition during last week’s Copa Libertadores game between The Strongest of Bolivia and Uruguay’s Defensor Sporting was nothing more than an optical illusion. Fox Sports’ broadcast from Thursday night showed a phantom-like figure running through hundreds of oblivious spectators at Hernando Siles Stadium – as in literally running through their bodies.
The eerie video quickly went viral, spooking and amusing soccer fans the world over. But Bolivian TV channel Red Pat also shot the game that night and its video proves that the supposed ghost was actually a fan darting across the aisles, apparently after fleeing from a nearby security guard.
Why was he running? According to Red Pat, guards opened the gates to the stadium in the 91st first minute (which is when the footage was taken) and the fan was likely making his getaway after entering illegally. For some strange reason, he took on a ghostly form in Fox Sports’ feed causing a bit of a stir on the internet.
