Built in 1145, the Ancient Ram Inn is believed to be the most haunted house in the entire British Isles, and perhaps the most haunted house in the world. The tales of child sacrifices, devil worship, and evil spirits are believed to be behind the terrifying happenings in this building. The Inn was built on the intersection of 2 ley lines, what many people believe is a conductor for spiritual activity. In addition, an ancient Pagan burial ground is said to have resided in the property over 5,000 years ago.
During its time as a bed and breakfast, people would often flee in the middle of the night, after seeing full bodied apparitions in their rooms, the feeling of being touched/pulled, disembodied voices, and the overwhelming feeling of pure evil.
Clergymen who have tried to rid the inn of it’s evil spirits have reportedly been chased away by the malignant forces. A local priest refused to enter the Ram Inn saying “i’m not going in there. What you’ve got there is very, very evil.” The Bishop of Gloucester is quoted as saying the Ram Inn was “the most evil place i have ever had the misfortune to visit”
Popular ghost sightings at the Ancient Ram Inn include a phantom cavalier, a witch, a man and a monk. 2 demons, an incubus and a succubus, ghostly lights and even a mysterious black cat roam the inn.
Previous owner John Humphries was resident of the Ram Inn, reported that on his first night in the house in 1968, he felt a presence grab his arm, before being pulled out of bed and dragged across the room. Since that time, John uncovered evidence of devil worship and ritual sacrifice. He found two child skeletons underneath the staircase, as well as broken sacrificial daggers.
He continued to experience the hauntings and the paranormal attacks until his death aged 89. Before his passing John needed professional carers to visit his home but even the council workers hired to help, refused to enter The Ancient Ram Inn alone to tend to John, after hearing the terrifying screams of a ghostly child and feeling a sinister force try to grab them.
On December 12th 2017, ownership of The Ancient Ram Inn past to Caroline Humphries who lived at the inn as a child. She says: “There’s definitely some kind of presence here. Dad didn’t believe in ghosts when he moved in, but in the end he wouldn’t go anywhere without his Bible.”
