On January 22nd, witnesses have reported seeing the Valencia Ghost Ship. In 1906, the SS Valencia, carrying 108 passengers and 65 crew from San Francisco to Seattle, ran aground on Vancouver Island’s southwest coast in foul weather. Trapped between cliffs and pounding waves, rescue was impossible due to uncharted rocks and storms. Many passengers drowned as lifeboats were wrecked. Over 36 hours, the ship broke apart, leaving 37 survivors and 136 dead in one of the Pacific Northwest’s most tragic maritime disasters.
